Activities in the Local Area

Walking & Nature

The Yorkshire Dales is well known for its recreational walking. The Green Dragon is even situated on the Pennine Way. There is also amazing limestone scenery along with a rich diversity of wildlife including red squirrels, hares, deer and lapwings.

Arts & Crafts

The local area has long been the refuge for artists and heritage crafts. There are plenty of galleries and workshops to visit when the weather is a little inclement, including wood-working, candle making and even a ropemaker. All of those listed here do not require booking.

Historical

Where to start, there is so much in the Dales. Industrial history in the form of lead mining at Gunnerside Gill and wood sawing at Gayle Mill. Medieval history with Bolton Castle (Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner there). Middleham Castle (where Richard III lived as a young man). There is even the ruins of a Knights Templar Preceptory!
